Building a Content Strategy

How to create a sustainable social media content strategy using ScoutSocial.

Building your content strategy

Define your content pillars

Before generating content, establish 3-5 core topics your brand will consistently cover. These become your "content pillars."

Examples for a SaaS company:

  • Product tutorials and tips
  • Industry insights and trends
  • Customer success stories
  • Behind-the-scenes and team culture
  • Thought leadership

Establish brand guidelines

In Settings > Brand > Brand Voice, define:

  • Brand voice - How should your content sound? Professional? Casual? Witty?
  • Tone guidelines - What words or phrases to use or avoid
  • Content dos and don'ts - What topics are off-limits? What angles to emphasize?

The AI uses these guidelines when generating content, so the more specific you are, the better the output.

Create a posting schedule

  1. Review the Best Time to Post panel on the Dashboard to identify when your audience is most active
  2. Set up regular time slots in the Calendar
  3. Aim for consistency: 3-5 posts per week is better than 10 posts one week and none the next
  4. Mix content types (text, images, video) across your schedule

Use saved prompts for efficiency

Save your best-performing generation prompts as Saved Prompts on Create Posts. When creating new content, apply a saved prompt to maintain consistency while saving time.

Review and iterate

Check the Intelligence Center panel on the Dashboard weekly to see what's working:

  • Which content pillars drive the most engagement?
  • What posting times perform best?
  • Which platforms are growing fastest?

Adjust your strategy based on data, not guesses.
