Tips & Best Practices

Engagement Optimization

Maximize your social media engagement using ScoutSocial's analytics and scheduling tools.

Maximizing engagement

Understand your engagement metrics

ScoutSocial tracks several engagement signals across platforms:

  • Likes/Reactions - Basic approval signals
  • Comments - Active audience involvement (highest algorithmic weight)
  • Shares/Reposts - Content amplification
  • Saves/Bookmarks - High-value signal that content is worth revisiting
  • Click-throughs - Action-driven engagement

Focus on comments and shares - these carry the most weight with platform algorithms.

Optimize your hooks

The first line of your post determines whether people keep reading:

  • Start with a bold claim - "Most social media advice is wrong. Here's why."
  • Ask a provocative question - "What would you do with 10x more reach?"
  • Share a surprising stat - "78% of marketers don't track this metric."
  • Create curiosity - "I tested posting at 3 AM for a month. The results surprised me."

Try different hooks on similar content and compare performance in Post Performance on the Dashboard.

Call-to-action strategies

Different CTAs serve different purposes:

  • Engagement CTA - "What's your experience with this? Comment below."
  • Save CTA - "Bookmark this for later."
  • Share CTA - "Tag someone who needs to see this."
  • Traffic CTA - "Link in bio for the full guide."

Configure your preferred CTA style in the AI generation settings on Create Posts.

Timing and frequency

  • Use suggested posting times - Schedule when your audience is most active (see Smart Schedule)
  • Don't over-post - Each post competes with your own other posts
  • Maintain quality - One high-engagement post is worth more than five low-engagement ones
  • Post type variety - Mix text, images, and video to keep your feed dynamic

Use Post Performance analytics

On the Dashboard and in My Posts (Posted tab), identify your top-performing posts and analyze:

  • What content format performed best?
  • What time of day did high-performing posts go out?
  • What was the hook/opening line?
  • What CTA was used?

Look for patterns and double down on what works.

Leverage Dashboard recommendations

Check the Intelligence Center tile (priority actions and key signals) and the Performance Score tile on your Dashboard weekly. Act on the top suggestions, which are based on your performance data.
