Troubleshooting

Solutions for common ScoutSocial errors and issues.

Common Issues

Post failed to publish

Possible causes:

  • Token expired - Go to Settings > Social Media Accounts and reconnect the affected account
  • Content violation - The platform rejected the content (e.g., exceeds character limit, banned content)
  • Rate limited - Too many posts in a short period; ScoutSocial will auto-retry
  • Media error - Image or video doesn't meet platform requirements (format, size, resolution)

What to do:

  1. Check the error message in My Posts - the failed post shows the specific reason
  2. Fix the issue (reconnect account, edit content, or replace media)
  3. Open the failed post from My Posts, then use Post Now (or reschedule it) to re-attempt publishing

"Token expired" or "Authentication failed"

This means ScoutSocial's access to your account was revoked or couldn't be refreshed.

Fix: Go to Settings > Social Media Accounts, disconnect the affected account, and reconnect it.

Common triggers:

  • Changed your password on the social platform
  • Revoked app access in platform settings
  • Platform's token expired and couldn't be auto-refreshed

AI generation is slow or stuck

AI content generation typically takes 30-90 seconds. If it seems stuck:

  • Deep research mode takes longer (2-5 minutes) as it does thorough topic research
  • Check your internet connection
  • The generation runs in the background - you can navigate away and come back
  • If it fails, check the error message and try again

Dashboard shows no data

  • New account? - Analytics take 24-48 hours to populate after connecting
  • No posts yet? - Metrics require published posts to track
  • Wrong time range? - Check the date filter in the dashboard
  • Platform delay - Some platforms have delays in reporting analytics

Calendar not showing scheduled posts

  • Check the platform filter - you may have a specific platform selected
  • Ensure posts are in "Scheduled" status (not "Draft")
  • Verify the timezone setting matches your expectation

Can't upload media

  • File too large - Check platform-specific size limits
  • Wrong format - Ensure image/video is in a supported format
  • Network issue - Check your internet connection and try again
  • Maximum file sizes vary by platform (for example, images up to about 5-8MB; video caps range from 200MB on LinkedIn to several GB on Facebook and YouTube). See each platform's page for exact limits.
