Connect Social Media Accounts
How to connect your LinkedIn, Twitter/X, Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, and YouTube accounts to ScoutSocial via OAuth.
Open Social Media Accounts
- Open the More menu (☰) at the bottom of the left sidebar, then click Settings.
- Expand Social Media Accounts.
This section shows a card for each platform that already has at least one connected account, along with the status of those accounts. To add a new account, click the + button to open the Connect a social media account picker and choose the platform you want.
When you have accounts on more than one platform, a search bar lets you filter platforms by name.
Supported platforms
ScoutSocial supports the following platforms:
| Platform | Account types | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Personal profile, Company page | Company pages require admin access to the LinkedIn organization | |
| Twitter/X | Personal account | Connected via OAuth 2.0 |
| Facebook Page | You select which Page to manage after authenticating | |
| Business or Creator account | Connected directly via Instagram Business Login; no Facebook account or linked Facebook Page required | |
| TikTok | Creator account | Connected via TikTok's OAuth flow |
| YouTube | YouTube channel | Connected via Google OAuth; requires a YouTube channel on the Google account |
How to connect an account
Step 1: Open the platform picker
Click the + button to open the Connect a social media account picker, then select the platform you want to link. Every plan includes all supported platforms. If you have used every account slot on your plan, the picker offers an Upgrade option instead.
On team plans, the picker also has a checkbox to let teammates with the Member role see and use the account you are about to connect. It is unchecked by default; check it before picking a platform to share the account with Members. You can change this later; see Account visibility for teammates.
Step 2: Authorize with the platform
You will be redirected to the platform's authorization page. Sign in (if needed) and grant ScoutSocial the requested permissions. ScoutSocial only requests the minimum permissions necessary for posting, reading analytics, and managing content.
Step 3: Complete platform-specific setup
Some platforms require an additional selection step after authorization:
Choose between connecting your personal profile or a company page. If you select a company page, ScoutSocial fetches the organizations you administer and lets you pick one. You can also add a company page later from an existing personal connection.
After authorization, a dialog appears listing the Facebook Pages you manage. Select the Page you want to connect.
Instagram, Twitter/X, TikTok, YouTube
No additional selection is needed. The account is connected immediately after authorization. Instagram uses Instagram Business Login, so you sign in directly with your Instagram Business or Creator account, with no Facebook account or linked Facebook Page required.
Step 4: Verify the connection
Once connected, the platform card updates to show:
- The account name and profile picture
- The account type (personal, business, company page, etc.)
- A kebab (three-dot) menu with per-account actions, including Disconnect to remove the account
Account limits
Your subscription plan sets a single total number of accounts you can connect, across all platforms combined — there is no per-platform limit, so you can use every slot on the same platform if you want. The connected-accounts section shows how many of your slots are in use. If you have reached your limit, you will see a prompt to upgrade your plan.
Managing connected accounts
Syncing accounts
Account data syncs automatically. ScoutSocial runs periodic background syncs to keep your profile information and recent post metrics up to date, and the connected-accounts panel refreshes on its own every 30 seconds. There is no manual sync button. If an account's token has expired or its data looks stale, use Reconnect from the account's kebab menu.
Disconnecting accounts
Click Disconnect on any connected account card. A confirmation dialog will appear before the account is removed. Disconnecting an account does not delete any previously created content or analytics data in ScoutSocial.
Adding multiple accounts
You can connect multiple accounts on the same platform (for example, a personal LinkedIn profile and a company page) as long as your plan allows it. Each connected account appears as a separate entry on the platform card.
Troubleshooting
- Authorization fails or times out - Make sure pop-ups are not blocked by your browser. Try again and ensure you complete the authorization on the platform's site.
- LinkedIn organizations not loading - Verify that you have admin access to the LinkedIn company page you want to connect.
- Instagram account not found - Your Instagram account must be a Business or Creator account. Convert your personal Instagram account in the Instagram app settings before connecting.
- Token expired - ScoutSocial automatically refreshes tokens in the background. If a token expires unexpectedly, disconnect and reconnect the account.
