Known Limitations - LinkedIn
Current limitations and restrictions when using LinkedIn through ScoutSocial, including API constraints and content restrictions.
Known Limitations
Content Limits
- Character limit: 3,000 characters per post
- Multi-image posts: 2-20 images, organic posts only (not available for sponsored content)
- Video file size: Maximum 200 MB
- Video format: Only MP4 is supported
- Video duration: 3 seconds to 10 minutes
Account Requirements
- Company pages require you to hold an Administrator, Content Administrator, or Direct Sponsored Content Poster role
- Posting to company/organization pages requires additional LinkedIn permissions. If your organization page isn't showing up after connecting, contact ScoutSocial support
API Restrictions
- ScoutSocial stays up to date with the latest LinkedIn API version, but API changes on LinkedIn's side may occasionally require updates
- LinkedIn may rate-limit API calls. ScoutSocial automatically manages platform rate limits to keep your posting reliable
- LinkedIn does not support editing posts after publishing via the API. If you need to make changes, you must delete and re-post
Analytics Limitations
LinkedIn's API gives apps far less data for a personal profile than for a company page. This is a LinkedIn platform limitation that affects every compliant tool, not something specific to ScoutSocial. You can still post from a personal profile the same way; only the analytics differ.
Personal profiles:
- Only posts you publish through ScoutSocial are tracked. LinkedIn does not let apps read your existing or natively-published posts, so your back catalogue (and anything you post directly on LinkedIn) will not appear in analytics. Coverage fills in going forward for posts sent through ScoutSocial.
- You do see engagement on those posts (impressions, reactions, comments, reposts), plus extra signals like saves, link clicks, profile views, and followers gained.
- Follower demographics are not available. You get a total follower count, but not the breakdown by location, industry, seniority, or company size that a company page provides.
- No per-post video analytics (views, unique viewers, watch time).
- No mentions or notification feed of who commented on or mentioned you.
- Post analytics require an analytics permission. If you connected the account before that permission was available, your numbers may show as zero until you reconnect it (posting keeps working either way). ScoutSocial shows a "Reconnect to enable post analytics" prompt on the account when this applies.
Company pages get the fuller picture: post statistics (impressions, unique impressions, clicks, engagement rate), follower demographics, per-post video analytics, and a mentions and notifications feed.
Both:
- Some metrics may take up to 24 hours to fully populate after a post is published.
- Historical analytics availability depends on LinkedIn's data retention policies.
Other Notes
- LinkedIn does not support Stories or Reels
- Competitor analysis is not available for LinkedIn through ScoutSocial
- The LinkedIn API does not provide a way to schedule Sponsored Content or LinkedIn Ads - only organic posts are supported
