What is Video Editing?

Video Editing is a built-in editor for the video assets in your library. It covers the everyday work of getting a clip ready for social: trim and cut, auto-captions from the spoken audio, styled text overlays, reel templates, color looks, aspect ratio and rotation, a music or voice-over track, and extra clips or photos stitched in with transitions.

The editor is non-destructive. Your changes never overwrite the original file: when you save, the edit is rendered into a brand new asset and the source video is left untouched. The render runs on the server, so after you press Save edits the new asset appears once processing finishes. Short clips take seconds; long ones can take a few minutes.

How to access it

• Media Assets: open the More menu on a video card, or open the video and use Edit video in its detail view.
• Create Posts composer: when a video is attached to a post you are composing, use the attachment's Edit action. The edited result replaces the attachment and is saved to your library as a new asset.

Layout

The preview sits at the top with a play button, the time readout and undo/redo beneath it. Below that is the filmstrip with the trim handles, then one lane per text overlay and audio track, and finally the tool tabs: Templates, Speed, Text, Captions, Looks, Format, Rotate, Audio and Media. Each tab opens its own panel under the tabs. A small dot on a tab means that tool has an edit applied.

Target platform

The chip in the header (No target until you pick one) says where the video is going. Choose a platform and the editor shows that platform's maximum length next to it; if your edit runs longer, the chip and the length label on the filmstrip turn amber and tell you by how much, so you can trim or speed up before the post is rejected at publish time. For Instagram and TikTok the chip also offers a one-tap switch to 9:16. When you open the editor from the composer, the post's platform is preselected. The target is a reminder for you; it does not change the render.

Tools

Trim & cut

Drag the start and end handles on the filmstrip to set where the clip begins and ends; the arrow keys nudge a focused handle by a quarter second. Tap or drag the track to move the playhead, then use Split to cut at the playhead and Delete part to drop the piece under it (tap again to restore it). Preview playback skips the removed spans, so what you see is what the render will contain.

Templates

Seventeen reel and feed templates (POV meme, day in my life, before/after, quick promo, three tips, testimonial and more). Tapping a card applies the template immediately as one undo step: it sets the format, places the text placeholders and lists the media slots to fill. Add a clip or photo to each slot from your library or an upload; empty slots are simply left out of the video. Replace the placeholder text in the Text tool, add your own music if you like, and save. Swap template further down the panel tries another layout without losing your media.

Speed

0.5× to 2×, from the presets or the slider in steps of 0.05. The preview plays at the chosen speed, and the audio keeps its pitch.

Text

Add up to 8 independent text overlays. Each one can be:

• Typed directly, or dictated with the microphone (the same voice input as the Create Posts and Brainstorm composers).
• Moved by dragging it on the preview, resized with the corner grip or by pinching, and rotated with the top grip or a two-finger twist. A second tap on a selected overlay opens it for editing right on the preview.
• Styled from presets with different colors, outlines, background boxes and typefaces, aligned left, center or right, and stepped up or down in size.
• Given a time window in the Text timing lane, so it appears only for part of the clip, and an enter animation (fade or slide up).

The emoji button adds a single emoji as a sticker that can grow larger than regular text. Overlays use fonts with broad script coverage, so non-Latin text (Cyrillic, Armenian and others) wraps in the preview exactly as it is burned into the video.

Captions

Generate captions transcribes the spoken audio of your main clip with word-level timing and burns timed captions into the video. It costs 6 AI Credits per minute of audio, billed to the second and only after a successful transcription; a 30-second clip is 3 credits. The transcript stays with the edit, so switching between Short cues and Full sentences, changing the caption style (Box, Outline, Yellow) and fixing a misheard name in the cue list are all free. Transcribe again runs a new, billed transcription and asks first. Captions keep their place if you trim or cut afterwards.

Remove pauses uses the same transcript: once captions exist, the panel shows how many silences of 0.8 seconds or more it found and how much shorter the clip would get. One tap cuts them all, leaving a little breathing room on each side of the speech and never cutting a word; the cuts appear as deleted parts on the filmstrip and are one undo step. You can still restore any single part afterwards.

Looks

Eight color grades (black and white, warm, cool, vibrant, faded film, punch, soft, golden hour). The preview approximates the look; the final grade is rendered on save.

Format

Keep the original aspect ratio or crop to 1:1, 4:5, 9:16 or 16:9. When a ratio crops the frame, the position slider chooses which part of the picture is kept, and text wraps to the cropped frame.

Rotate

Rotate in 90° steps to correct a clip captured in the wrong orientation.

Audio

Add up to 4 audio tracks: Record a voice-over with your microphone, Upload a file, or pick one from your Library. Each track gets its own lane under the video for position and trimming, and its own volume in the panel. Adding music automatically lowers the original audio to 25%, and the Original audio control sets the level of the clip's own sound (0% mutes it). When a track is mixed in, the result is loudness-normalised for social platforms.

For uploaded and library tracks, use music you have the rights to.

Media

Media inserts videos or images at the playhead, from your library or an upload, several at once. Inserted clips appear as blocks on the Video lane: drag to reorder, tap to trim a clip on its own, and use the + marks to insert at any boundary. The chip between two clips sets how the second one enters (crossfade, fade through black or slide). A still image shows for an adjustable number of seconds and can get a slow zoom in or out. The stitched result is rendered on save; the preview plays the sequence in place.

Undo, redo and saving

Every edit is one undo step, including template applies, dictation and gestures, and Undo / Redo sit next to the play button. Closing the editor with unsaved changes asks for confirmation first. Once you press Save edits the footer shows what the server is doing (fetching, encoding with a percentage, mixing audio, saving); the render continues even if you close the editor, and the new asset appears in your library when it is done.

Also save as next to the Save button renders extra versions of the same edit in other formats (1:1, 4:5, 9:16, 16:9 or the original frame), centred on the clip, one after the other. They land in your library as separate assets named after the format, so one edit can cover a Reel and a feed post.

Limits

A source video can be up to 500 MB and 10 minutes long; all inputs together up to 1.5 GB. Up to 20 inserted clips or images, 4 audio tracks and 8 text overlays per edit. Output is capped at 1080p on the short edge.

Availability

Video Editing is enabled for all tiers, including free and trial accounts. Auto-captions use AI Credits; everything else is included.

Tips

• Editing always produces a new asset. To keep several variants (a 9:16 and a 1:1 cut, say), tick them under Also save as before saving; the original stays available.
• Set the format to match where you will publish before placing text, so captions stay inside the cropped frame.
• Generate captions once, then adjust lines, style and wording for free. Only Transcribe again is billed.
• If a clip will not play in the editor preview, it is usually an HEVC recording from a phone. New uploads are converted to MP4 automatically in the background, so close the editor and open the clip again a minute later; clips uploaded before this existed need a re-upload.
• The library shows each video's length and, for edits, keeps track of the clip it was made from.
